I have been to Japan several times, and most of my trips were in cold days. So on wandering around Tokyo, I always hunted for some good places to enjoy grilled food and beer.
There are luxury grill restaurants, ordinary grill stores here and there and such. Yet the place where I had the best experience is a small street near Shinjuku Station. Along 300 meters of the street, grilled restaurants fill every space. I have tried 3 or 4 restaurants among them, and all are memorable to me.
The food is good, the beer is cold, the atmostphere is warm and enjoyable. I would recommend anyone to go there.
The average price for a meal (including beer) is around JPY 1000 (~USD 10). That’s pretty reasonable in a city like Tokyo.
So, if you’re in Tokyo, take the metro to Shinjuku Station. Ask for “Omoide Yokocho” street, pick up a restaurant an enjoy!
Below are some photos I took there last autumn.
